Aintree Motorcycle Training and A1 Rider Training are fully qualified Learner Rider Instructors, Post Test Trainers and Advanced Instructors/Examiners.

The training school staff are highly qualified D.V.S.A certified instructors who have all completed the D.V.S.A Cardington assessment and who also hold the D.V.S.A post test trainer qualification known as DVSA ENHANCED RIDER SCHEME TRAINER.
We train to a standard which exceeds the motorcycle learner test, we believe in teaching people to ride SAFELY FOR LIFE and not just to pass the motorcycle learner test.

What is C.B.T

C.B.T (Compulsory Basic Training) is a training and information course, introduced in December 1990 by the government to help reduce the accident rate of novice riders. It is a course to give a person the basic skills and knowledge to stay safe on the road. The C.B.T course is also in place to promote road safety but is also a legal requirement if you wish to ride a motorcycle or scooter on the public highway

Is the C.B.T a test

No! It is not a test, but an assessment of competence and a continuous assessment of ability. Most trainees wishing to ride motorcycles/scooters on the road must undertake this course and obtain a cbt certificate. C.B.T trainees must reach a ‘minimum standard’ to obtain your Compulsory Basic Training certificate (dl196). The instructor will judge if you are competent to ride unaccompanied on the road without instruction before issuing the cbt certificate.

Course Summary

Picture
ELEMENT A: This element is the introduction and does not involve riding the machine. It is a classroom based element explaining the aims of the CBT training day, the importance of correct motorcycle clothing and the legal requirements of motorcycle helmets.
Your eyesight and driving licence will also be check before we start this session.

Picture
ELEMENT B: This element does not involve riding the machine. It is about on-site, hands-on training.you will be shown some basic machine safety checks-use of the controls-use of stands-wheeling the machine and starting and stopping the engine.

Picture
ELEMENT C:This element the learner will begin to ride their machine. The learner will be shown the exercise's which need to be carried out, with a full demonstration by your A1 instructor if required.

Picture
ELEMENT D: This element is to make sure the learner has the information they will need to ride
legally and safely on the road and to prepare them for the on-road riding element of C.B.T. The learners knowledge of the highway code will then be checked.

Picture
ELEMENT E: This element the learner will ride out on the public highway, with a qualified trainer, and possibly with another learner, under radio guidance for at least two hours.

Upon completion of all elements of C.B.T, you will be allowed to ride any learner legal bike/scooter up to a maximum of 125cc. However if you are 16 years old you are only allowed to ride up-to a 50cc  machine. The C.B.T will expire Two years after completion date, L-plates must be displayed at all times learner restrictions applied. After the two year period a new C.B.T is required should you wish to continue riding. If you completed your C.B.T at 16 years old upon your 17th birthday you will automatically be covered to ride a 125cc machine, but you will still be under the learner restrictions and L-plate must be displayed.
C.B.T candidates do not need to take a Motorcycle Theory Test unless they are preparing to do a Practical Test at a later date. Our price includes the loan of all equipment, most clothing and motorcycle/scooter during the day. The C.B.T course is based over a 7 hour period no matter how many days this is spread over (usually one day) this will include a 30 minute lunch break. It isn't common, but some students are unable to complete the off-road elements of the course successfully in a single day (7 hours). Therefore can not complete element E (see above), In this case they will be asked to return for further tuition on a separate day.

Students own machines must be road-legal, have all the relevant legal documentation and must be insured by the student to train under instruction.
Our C.B.T training courses are usually available 6 days a week-  starting at 0800/0900 and finishing anytime up-to 1500/1600. In the winter the due to shorter daylight hours our C.B.T's may be restricted.WE try to not work on mondays as we do need a day off

Don't Forget your Driving licence: All student's are asked to ensure they bring their driving photo card licence on the day of the C.B.T and the licence and photograph must be in date. Learners still on the old style (paper-only) licence must produce valid in-date passport along with their licence on the day.
please see :-https://www.gov.uk/government/news/driving-licence-changes
we will also need your national insurance number to allow us to run a driving licence check prior to the cbt starting
Highway CodeAll student's are asked to ensure they have read and understood the highway code. You made a legal declaration when you signed for your driving licence that you have read and understand the highway code. It is not the instructor’s job to teach you the Highway Code. If the C.B.T course is continued on another day due to the individual not reading and understanding the highway code then a charge will be made for the second days session to complete the C.B.T as this is NOT our fault but the fault of the candidate.it is vitally important for you to prepare yourself for your C.B.T training by reading and understanding the highway code. These are the rules of the road and you need to know them. Not only will this make things safer for you as you get on the road for the first time on a bike, but it will make life easier and more fun.
PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE HIGHWAY CODE BEFORE ATTENDING ANY COURSE.
A1 RIDER TRAINING RESERVES THE RIGHT TO TERMINATE ANY C.B.T DUE TO LACK OF HIGHWAY CODE KNOWLEDGE WITH NO REFUND!

A1/A2 Light and Medium Motorcycle Training

As with all our courses you must complete C.B.T first of all, a motorcycle theory test and take  2x practical tests. The Module one test then the module two. You can run your course over weekends to fit it in around work or alternatively, book some time off and train with us during the week or even during your holidays. To discuss your specific requirements contact us or give us a call.

A1 Light Motorcycles

This can be taken on a machine between 115 and 125cc. If you are aged between 17 and 19 this will be your only option.Upon passing the A1 you will get a full licence to ride on motorways and take pillion passengers, but you will NEVER be able to ride anything bigger than a 125cc machine that produces a maximum of 11 Kwh (14.6 Bhp) until you pass the next test (A2) when you reach a minimum age of 19 or two years after passing your A1 test.

A2 Medium Motorcyles

This will be taken on a machine of a minimum of 395cc that produces a maximum of 35 Kwh (46.6 Bhp). This can only be taken when you are at least 19 years old or two years after passing your A1.
Upon passing you can ride any size of motorbike but the power is capped at 35 Kwh (46.6 Bhp) this will never increase!. The other “restriction” on this category, is the machine cannot be restricted to 35 Kwh if it produces more than 70 Kwh or 93.5 Bhp in standard trim.

The Motorcycle Practical Test

Module One

This module is conducted at the D.V.S.A MPTC (multi purpose test centre) This test can be booked by our staff for you if you require, but can be booked by you if so wish. The test takes an average of 8 to 15 mins to complete, but you are under no pressure to rush through the test by the examiner. They conduct the test at your pace.
Various slow speed and higher speed manoeuvres make up the mod one test, and our instructors will guide you through and give you ample time to practice this test at one of the local D.S.A test centres using the same equipment as the actual practical test itself.

Module Two

This module consists of a 38 to 40 min road ride whilst being followed by a D.V.S.A Examiner who will assess you riding ability. You will of course by this stage be fully acquainted with the test requirements as our instructors would have taught you what is required to obtain your full motorcycle licence entitlement.
A1 ridertraining or any of its instructors can not be held responsible for any candidates documents required for test.
Remember that all documents are required for training for test day.

Direct Access

The Direct Access Scheme (D.A.S) allows riders aged twenty-four or over to take a test on a large motorcycle. Allowing them upon passing the test to ride any motorcycle without restrictions. You must complete C.B.T first of all , our training is based around the lesson by lesson approach. So we don't train to a set amount of hours, this means it's the right amount of time you need as an individual to be ready for your tests.
All learners must take a motorcycle theory test and take  2 x practical tests ( module 1 and 2) on a motorcycle of at least  40 Kwh (54 Bhp). We use 600cc bikes, which are more than ample for this task.
Our training courses are quite flexible in approach and we run training courses seven days a week. You can run your course over weekends to fit it in around work,
Alternatively, book some time off and train with us during the week or even during your holidays. To discuss your specific requirements contact us or give us a call or use the contact us section of our website and we will be more than happy to give you a call with any information you may need.

Diamond Advanced Motorcycle Test

DIAmond is the only advanced motorcycle test in the UK, which uses the DSA test marking system. It will prove beyond doubt that you can ride safely in a variety of road and traffic conditions and that you can manoeuvre your machine accurately, under control and with proper regard for the safety of other road users. The DIAmond advanced motorcycle test includes off-road exercises such as figure of 8 and ‘slow’ ride to demonstrate control and will demonstrate unequivocally that you have improved your riding technique, your observation, awareness and road skills.
Advanced motorcycling is the ability to control the position and speed of the machine safely, systematically and smoothly, using the road and traffic conditions to make progress with skill and responsibility.
This skill requires a positive but courteous attitude and a high standard of riding competence based on concentration, effective all round observation, anticipation and planning. This is coupled with good handling skills.
Your motorcycle will always be at the right place on the road at the right time, travelling at the right speed with the correct gear engaged, and can always be stopped safely in the distance that can be seen to be clear.
Here at a1 ridertraining we offer you the DIAmond advanced motorcycle test
Training is carried out by our DIAmond advanced instructors

D.V.S.A ENHANCED RIDER SCHEME

The main difference between D.V.S.A. ERS and some of the other schemes available is that D.V.S.A. ERS is tailored to the individual, rather than being a 'one size fits all' training or assessment package.

The ERS is training designed for fully licensed motorcyclists who would like to improve certain areas of their riding skills.

As training is tailored to your needs, you do as little or as much training as required - mostly to help reduce key risk areas in on-road riding, such as bend negotiation, overtaking, filtering, positioning and junctions.
training starts when you book an  assessment with one of the expert trainers from
DVSA enhanced rider scheme trainer register and Alan the director of training is a registered trainer with the D..S.A

The assessment will identify your main strengths and weaknesses but there is no ‘pass’ or ‘fail’ - no test is involved and you cannot lose your licence. If your riding skills are satisfactory, the process ends there and you will be issued with an d.v.s.a.enhanced rider scheme certificate.

If you do need training, the Alan will prepare a personalised training plan for you and concentrate on specific areas needing attention, rather than taking a ‘one size fits all’ approach.
Once you've completed your training, you'll receive a report and a ‘DSA Certificate of Competence - Enhanced Rider Bonus’, which then qualifies you for an insurance discount.

The training is delivered by accredited trainers who have passed rigorous training and met the highest standards of instruction before joining the
DVSA enhanced rider scheme trainer register.
This scheme is also a great way to get back to riding a motorcycle after a break of maybe a few years. Some call this the BACK TO BIKING training, but anyone who instructs a post candidate MUST be qualified to do so.Some riding schools offer this service, or even offer advanced training and are not qualified to do so.
So my advice is ALWAYS ASK TO SEE THE INSTRUCTORS QUALIFICATION. If they can not produce it, walk away!!!!!.
We at A1 Rider Training have all the correct qualifications

The D.V.S.A enhanced rider scheme checks your motorcycle riding skills and provides training to help you improve. There is no test.
You can get discounts on motorcycle insurance once you’ve successfully completed the scheme.
You can take the enhanced rider scheme if you’re a fully licensed motorcyclist and have passed your test.
The scheme is suitable if you:
  • have just passed your test
  • are returning to riding after a break
  • are upgrading to a more powerful motorcycle
  • want to check or improve your riding standard
