1968 TRIUMPH BONNEVILLE T120R
From the Zimmerman Brothers Collection
Fully restored by Bill Hoard, Martin, Michigan
Bill Hoard of Martin, Michigan, the restorer of many Bonnevilles in the Zimmerman Brothers Collection, is considered one of the best in the world. Hoard’s work is featured in many Triumph collections in the USA. Most collectors say he set the Triumph restoration standards for more than 25 years. Bill has recently retired, and this may be the rare chance to acquire one of his restorations. Three major improvements were made in 1968. All Bonnevilles now were fitted with Amal Concentric carburetors, new 8-inch twin-leading-shoe front brakes and redesigned fork internals. But 1968 also marked the beginning of what is often referred to as Triumph’s “sweet spot”: 1968-70. The “Bonnie” had truly reached its zenith, and at a time when its performance was considered world-class.
